Overview
HomeVault is a local-first application. It stores no data on any HomeVault server because there are no HomeVault servers. The app has no backend, no user accounts, and no cloud infrastructure operated by HomeVault.
All data you enter into HomeVault is written directly to a folder on your device or to the cloud storage provider of your choice. HomeVault never reads, transmits, or processes your data on any server it operates.
What data HomeVault stores
HomeVault writes records to the vault folder you choose when you first open the app. These records include item details (name, brand, model number, purchase date, warranty expiry, notes), maintenance task history, and any attachments (photos, receipts) you add. All of this data lives exclusively in your chosen folder.
HomeVault never reads, transmits, or processes this data on any server it operates. Your records are yours.
Cloud storage providers
If you choose to store your vault in iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or Dropbox, that provider's own privacy policy governs how they handle your files. HomeVault has no relationship with those providers and does not share any information with them on your behalf — you are simply choosing to store files in a folder that those services sync, the same way you would any other document.
If you store your vault on-device only, no cloud provider is involved.
Optional encryption
HomeVault offers optional on-device encryption for sensitive fields such as serial numbers, purchase prices, and receipt attachments. When encryption is enabled, those fields are encrypted on your device using AES-256-GCM before being written to disk, using a passphrase you set.
HomeVault never sees your passphrase. It is never transmitted anywhere. If you lose your passphrase, the encrypted fields cannot be recovered — there is no reset mechanism, because there is no HomeVault server to contact.
Local notifications
HomeVault uses local push notifications to remind you about upcoming warranty expirations and scheduled maintenance tasks. These notifications are generated and delivered entirely on your device by the operating system's notification framework. No notification content or scheduling data leaves your device.
Analytics
None. HomeVault collects no analytics, crash reports, or usage data of any kind. There is no telemetry. There are no tracking pixels. There is nothing phoning home.
Third-party SDKs
HomeVault uses the following third-party library:
- Plugin.LocalNotification — used for scheduling local device notifications. This library operates entirely on-device and makes no network requests. It has no analytics or advertising functionality.
HomeVault does not include any advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, crash reporting SDKs, or social media SDKs.
Children
HomeVault does not knowingly collect any personal data from anyone, including children. Because the app collects no data whatsoever, no special provisions for children's data are applicable.
